Chanting the Verba

Gottesdienst's new blog site has had some great posts. This short one is on the benefits of chanting of the Verba in the Divine Service, a practice I would like to do myself when ordained. For those unfamiliar: the "Verba" are the Words of Our Lord said at the celebration of the Lord's Supper, otherwise known as the "Words of Institution". My summer vicarage pastor chanted these, and I thought it was fantastic, as does Pr. Peterson at Redeemer where we went a few years ago before field work. There is a point that needs to be made here: chanting the Verba rises these words above the ordinary language we use with one another and ascends them to their rightful place of honor.
